MIAMI, FL — The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is dedicating its Third Annual International Pilates Day on May 6, 2006, to raising awareness of the nation's increasing inactivity and launching its new Pilates exercise initiative in the public school system.
“Our goal is to offer this Pilates initiative at no cost to the schools, as a public statement of the PMA's dedication to worldwide health,” said Kevin Bowen, executive director of the PMA. “Through our pre-pilot study we have found that just a short Pilates routine once a week not only improved the children's physical fitness but also resulted in increased mental focus and productivity in the classroom.”
To launch the public school initiative, the annual Pilates Day will focus on Pilates awareness and whole body health. Pilates Day events will take place at participating studios worldwide and at a national event at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach, FL.
