SAN DIEGO — Staff members of the American Council on Exercise recently banned together to support Operation FitKids, ACE's public outreach program that is dedicated to improving the health and fitness of America's youth. For the 17th annual Carlsbad 5K Run/Walk, 15 racers solicited individual donations and brought in more than $1,000 for the program.
The Carlsbad 5K draws more than 10,000 participants, including champions, from around the globe and has a reputation of being “America's Premier 5K.”
More than half of the ACE group had never raced before. To prepare, the group trained for the event for 10 weeks. Each session included time on the open road surrounding ACE headquarters.
“Raising money for Operation FitKids through the Carlsbad 5000 was the perfect way for us to stand behind our own mission,” said Jennifer Schiffer, Carlsbad team organizer and editorial assistant for ACE. “We had a tremendous amount of support from the rest of the staff and I'm hoping that we can make this a tradition here at ACE.”
