The Maple Grove club required a $12 million investment.
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - Northwest Athletic Club and its parent company, Wellbridge, announced the grand opening of the new, $12 million Northwest Athletic Club-Maple Grove, a full-service athletic club and aquatics complex located next to the Maple Grove Community Center.
As reported in our January issue (Industry Outlook, page 8), this facility is unique in that it represents a public-private collaboration between Wellbridge and the city of Maple Grove. The club chain and the community began working on the project five years ago, in order to bring an athletic club to area residents.
In addition to fitness, the 71,000-square-foot facility provides a comprehensive aquatics complex, complete with a lazy river ride, obstacle course and water play features. The club also shares an indoor Olympic-sized lap pool and a zero-depth entry kids' pool with the neighboring community center.
This new Maple Grove facility marks the first Northwest Athletic Club to be built since the Arena Club at the Target Center in 1991. The new Maple Grove location will bring the Northwest Athletic Club chain to nine full-service clubs and two tennis facilities in the metro area, and brings the Wellbridge portfolio to more than 50 clubs across the nation.
