WALNUT CREEK, CA — First it was 30-minute workouts. Then came the 28-minute workout. Now there are 21-minute workouts. Hoping to capitalize on the time-crunched member, 21 Minute Fitness & Weight Loss said it can offer the equipment and coaching for members to reach and maintain lifetime fitness in one 21-minute workout a week. The program, performed in street clothes, is based on the established benefits of slow, deliberate movement using weights that leave participants “spent” by the last repetition. The program follows an initial eight-week period of two workouts per week, after which only one workout per week is required for maintenance, the club said.
The 21 Minute Fitness & Weight Loss program uses the Hi-Lo technique, an advanced but easy-to-learn form of resistance strength training. Using specially designed medical-grade equipment to control the sustained motion, participants train in a safe, efficient manner, all under constant supervision and coaching by a 21 Minute Fitness & Weight Loss coach, management said.
“Achieving this efficiency and effectiveness doesn't take many repetitions, if the exercise is done with the correct slow movement. This short, intense regimen is the new fitness paradigm — real convenience fitness,” explained Greg Thurman, founder and president of 21 Minute Fitness & Weight Loss. “The program fits into your lifestyle; you really don't have to change your life to squeeze in a 21-minute exercise workout once a week.”
