NEW YORK — Crunch Fitness' newest location opened Sept. 8 in Union Square in New York. This is Crunch's 12th club in Manhattan and the first new gym that has opened since the company was sold to Marc Tascher and Angelo Gordon & Co. in January.
The 21,000-square-foot, two-level club features cardio equipment, an entertainment system and group fitness classes, including Pole Dancing, Ride in Movie and Hot Yoga. Personal training clients can privately train in Crunch's first personal training studio. Other sections include a yoga and Pilates studio, sauna and massage room.
“As a gym whose roots began in the heart of the East Village in 1989, Union Square is the perfect spot for Crunch Fitness' newest flagship club and will anchor the company's presence in downtown Manhattan,” says David Fowler, chief operating officer of Crunch Fitness. “With the opening of this club, the company embarks on its plan to expand Crunch to reach its core demographics in existing markets.”
Upon entering the club, members are greeted with a 20-foot dome covering the reception area. Members can put up their feet in a retro lodge-inspired lounge complete with a flat-screen TV. Other design elements include glow-in-the-dark wallpaper in the spinning studio and glowing glass entryway floors to the locker rooms.
“The club's design brings to life Crunch's youthful and irreverent image and its philosophy of fusing entertainment and fitness,” says Rebecca Rothman, vice president of marketing for Crunch Fitness. “With updated signature Crunch décor, our members will recognize the energy of the Crunch brand but with an evolved and more stylized presentation.”
