Life Fitness' newest commercial exercise equipment will feature seamless iPod integration, making it possible for iPod users to plug in and charge their iPods, watch video on the equipment's LCD screen and control the playing of their iPod music libraries from the console. The first Life Fitness product featuring iPod integration will be available this month with the rest of the line to follow later in the year.

The University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) celebrated the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association's National Recreation Sports and Fitness Day on Feb. 22 by offering an open house at its Student Recreation Facility, Sport and Fitness Center and Bowling and Billiards Center. Students, faculty and staff were invited to all facilities to learn about the programs offered by UIC's Campus Recreation department.

Gary McCoy, CYBEX director of education in the mid 1990s, returned to Cybex as territory manager for the Rocky Mountain region.

Health magazine gave Octane Fitness the Best of Fitness award in the category of elliptical trainers costing more than $1,500.

A $26 million, two-year expansion of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ, will add 22,000 square feet to the center, which has more than 10,000 members. As part of the project, the racquetball courts will be converted to multipurpose rooms for personal training and group exercise. The JCC will also improve its youth and senior lounges as well as its youth fitness facilities and enhance its fitness and recreation areas.

By the end of last year, the women-only club Elements had hit a 25-club milestone, and so far this year, the company has opened one club in Exeter, NH, with another 25 clubs in development across the United States, according to Chris Palumbo, brand strategist for the company. Elements offers fitness and weight loss services and bills itself as a boutique-style health club.
