The chain has expanded with the acquisition of three former Gold's Gym locations.
SAN DIEGO-Continuing its push to build critical mass in existing markets, Bally Total Fitness has acquired a three-club group of fitness centers in the greater San Diego area. "We've got two strong San Diego locations already and a third we are developing, and the opportunity came up to get some additional very strong locations," said Dave Southern, vice president of public and investor relations.
These "strong locations" are in the San Marcos, Vista and Scripps Ranch areas of northern San Diego County. Formerly Gold's Gyms, the three clubs shared a principal investor, George Jackson, who has retained a Pacific Beach Gold's Gym location.
The newly acquired Gold's Gyms will operate as Bally Total Fitness facilities. Southern believes the transition will be transparent, noting that job opportunities exist for employees. The club chain will also honor all current memberships.
Counting these three facilities, Bally has acquired a total of 27 clubs in the past 12 months.
