Star Trac made its presence felt last week at the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association show in San Francisco with a front-and-center booth location as well as three big announcements.
The Irvine, CA-based company reached an agreement at the show last Wednesday involving an exclusive international club equipment transaction with Tony de Leede of Fit n Fast Australia, David Patchell Evans with Fit4less in Canada and Mark Smith from Cityfitness in New Zealand. The agreement affects more than 100 clubs.
“Teaming up with Tony, Mark and Patch, three of the most respected gentlemen in the industry, is an exciting venture,” Star Trac CEO Michael Bruno said in a statement. “We at Star Trac are honored by this partnership.”
Fit n Fast’s de Leede, the former CEO of Fitness First Australia, has helped form a new concept for his clubs, a 30-minute workout called “The Quickie.” Smith’s relationship with Star Trac dates back to his days at Town Sports International.
Earlier this month, Bruno appointed Dustin Grosz as president after the resignation of Mike Leveque. Since taking over as president, one of Grosz’s first priorities has been to streamline Star Trac’s product offerings.
“I have a lot of confidence in the new ownership and management of Star Trac and look forward to using it for our Fit4less brand,” Evans said. “It is another sign of our whole industry getting stronger after this recession.”
Also at the show, Star Trac launched a new plate-loaded strength training line called Leverage. Star Trac premiered five of the eight Leverage pieces at the show: chest press, incline press, shoulder press, lat pull down and low row. The remaining three pieces (high row, decline press and bicep curl) will be available for order in the next 60 to 90 days, the company said.
Star Trac, along with Mad Dogg Athletics Inc., also launched the next generation of Spinner bikes, including the new Spinner NXT and Spinner Pro, as well as the new Spinner Blade. The NXT is now available for shipment, and the new Pro and Blade bikes will be shipped soon, the company said.
“The design innovation of the new Spinner bikes will ensure that Star Trac and Mad Dogg Athletics sustain its No. 1 position in the group cycling category,” Jeff Dilts, product manager of Star Trac, said in a statement.
