SILVER SPRINGS, MD -- The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) is preparing for a TV/radio satellite media tour, “Getting Fit and Staying Fit in the New Year,” which will take place on Jan. 6, 2010, at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
The tour involves SGMA partnering with six or seven companies to showcase their fitness and exercise products to TV viewers and radio listeners. During a satellite media tour, SGMA coordinates “live” interviews (conducted via satellite) between SGMA industry spokesman Mike May and TV news programs at local stations around the country. Each interview includes “live” product demonstrations—seven products per interview. Each interview will be, on average, three to five minutes in length. As in past satellite media tours, approximately 25 to 30 “live” interviews will be conducted, with each one showcasing all seven products on display that day.
“In many respects, it’s a ‘show and tell’ type interview where my goal is to enlighten, educate and motivate the TV viewers at home to make fitness and exercise as regular part of their days as breakfast, lunch, dinner and eight hours of sleep,” May says.
The SGMA is looking for companies who want to participate in the Jan. 6, 2010, event. The cost to participate is $8,000. The money goes to defray the satellite costs of the event, May says. Companies can contact May at MMay@sgma.com.
