The new Haselwood Family YMCA will lease space to Harrison Medical Center.
SILVERDALE, WA -- To enhance health and wellness opportunities at the new Haselwood Family YMCA in Silverdale, WA, the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties recently announced a partnership with Harrison Medical Center.
The hospital and YMCA currently are finalizing a 10-year lease agreement in which the medical center will occupy 3,000 square feet of the new 84,000-square-foot Y facility. The $18 million YMCA is slated to open in summer 2011 and will serve an estimated 15,000 members.
Potential programming under discussion for the hospital’s space in the Y includes helping new mothers lose weight gained during pregnancy, providing education about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and improving mobility, strength and endurance.
The new YMCA will feature exercise and multipurpose rooms, a gym, an aquatics center, wellness centers, a community meeting center, a youth drop-in zone and a nursery.
Services the hospital offers will be available to everyone, including people who aren’t Harrison patients, officials say. The hospital also hopes to expand preventive care offerings to its employees.
The Y has a similar partnership with Multi-Care Health Systems at its Gig Harbor Family YMCA which has been in existence since 2007. That partnership has been highly successful and is the model for the Haselwood facility, says Jessie Palmer, capital campaign and grant coordinator for the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
