Hammer Strength, a Life Fitness-owned performance brand of strength equipment, and the National Basketball Strength & Conditioning Association (NBSCA) have named Mike Elliott of the Phoenix Suns the 6th annual NBSCA Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year.

Each year, members of the NBSCA vote for the coach who embodies the highest level of excellence and outstanding service to their team, the National Basketball Association (NBA), peers and the profession. As the winner, Elliott received a $2,500 stipend for the Suns to use toward any piece of Hammer Strength or Life Fitness equipment, as well as his own Life Fitness Lifecycle Exercise Bike.

“We work closely with outstanding trainers and strength and conditioning coaches across the country to provide high-performance equipment that prepares athletes to excel on the field or on the court,” said Chris Clawson, Life Fitness president. “We’re proud to recognize Elliott for his tireless passion and commitment to his field and his profession.”

As head strength and conditioning coach for the Phoenix Suns, Elliott is responsible for all aspects of player strength and conditioning and assists the Suns’ Head Athletic Trainer Aaron Nelson with daily recognition, care and treatment of team-related medical issues. Elliott joined the Suns as an assistant athletic trainer in 2003-04 and is in his first year as the team’s head strength and conditioning coach.

Elliott holds his Master of Science in performance enhancement and injury prevention from California University at Pennsylvania and has his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Arizona State University. He is a certified athletic trainer, performance enhancement specialist (PES) and corrective exercise specialist (CES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

This year, Hammer Strength is celebrating 25 years, a quarter century of success.
