XSport Fitness, Big Rock, IL, is opening five new clubs and introducing a low-price option at its express clubs.
By June 2012, XSport Fitness will have opened three full-service clubs: a 40,000-square-foot location in Fairfax, VA; a 45,000-square-foot location in Massapequa, NY; and a 60,000-square-foot location in Skokie, IL. It also will have opened two express locations: a 20,000-square-foot club in Crestwood, IL, and a 20,000-square-foot location in Chicago. These five clubs will bring XSport’s total number of locations to 32.
XSport opened its first express club in 1997, but about six months ago, the company redesigned the model to include spa services (massage and tanning) and to increase the square footage to 19,000 to 25,000, according to Kelly Cartwright, director of customer experience and public relations for XSport.
The two new XSport Fitness Express locations will feature a $9.95 per month basic membership option that includes unlimited access to equipment and facilities. The low-price option is in addition to the already existing $19.95 premium membership option, which includes a variety of add-ons, such as group exercise, spa services, unlimited guest privileges and free child care. About 25 percent of the company’s six existing Express models already offer these two membership options, which will be rolled out in the other express clubs by the end of the year.
The express facilities are built with the same finishes and appointments as the larger XSport clubs, offer the same fitness equipment and offer group exercise rooms, massage, tanning, unlimited guest privileges and free child play services, all at a lower price point.
The larger XSport facilities range in size from 45,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet, featuring cardio equipment with personal flat screen TVs, 300 strength training machines, extensive free weight areas, two group exercise studios, a four-lane lap pool, a luxurious whirlpool, sauna and steam rooms, basketball courts, rock climbing walls, full-service spas, personal training, fitness assessments, 20 tanning rooms with cutting-edge equipment, including an ultraviolet-free tanning system, child center, Internet café, pro shop and free parking. Membership at these facilities runs about $35 per month.
Capital Fitness Inc., which owns and operates XSport Fitness, ranked No. 8 on this year’s Top 100 Clubs list with $142 million in 2010 revenue.
