ELMHURST, IL -- A member of a Chicago-area XSport Fitness helped rescue a dog that had been tossed into traffic from a moving vehicle.
Bill Miller, the fitness manager at the XSport in Elmhurst, IL, told the Chicago Tribune that the member found the dog wandering between cars in the club’s parking lot.
“We put it in an unoccupied room and called police,” Miller told the newspaper. “It was a cute dog. It was very friendly. It looked very healthy. Somebody just dumped it.”
Police were questioning witnesses and a suspect in the alleged case of cruelty to an animal, the Tribune reported. A motorist told police that he saw a man heading west on North Avenue throw the dog out the driver’s side window of a car shortly before 7 a.m. last Friday near Illinois Highway 83 in Elmhurst.
Police may decide to charge the suspect on Monday.
“Ralphie,” believed to be part Dalmatian and no more than 8 months old, was taken to a nearby animal hospital, where it will stay through the weekend before being transferred to a humane society, the newspaper reported.
