RALEIGH, NC -- Another former Peak Fitness club is changing ownership in North Carolina.

O2 Fitness, Raleigh, NC, recently announced the acquisition of its sixth facility and second in the Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area. The new club currently is a Motion Fitness operation in a former Peak Fitness facility.

O2 Fitness is planning to invest more than half a million dollars worth of new equipment and another quarter million dollars in facility upgrades, including new locker rooms, a group cycling room and more than a dozen flat-screen TVs.

“O2 Fitness is excited to offer another convenient, quality location for our current members, as well as Chapel Hill and Durham residents that are familiar with the quality of the brand but have yet to have an opportunity to join,” Michael Olander Jr., president and founder of O2 Fitness, said in a statement. “This location also fills a void in the market left by Peak Fitness, and through providing a trustworthy product and attentive customer service, we at O2 Fitness will ensure everyone the best opportunities to reach their goals in a safe, motivating and fun atmosphere.”

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is in negotiations to lease a closed Peak Fitness facility in Winston-Salem, NC. Fitness Management Group Inc., the parent company of Peak Fitness, filed for bankruptcy in July.
