Newtown Athletic Club

Newtown Athletic Club, Newtown, PA, has broken ground on a two-year, $12 million expansion project, which will include a new baseball academy, an indoor athletic field house and an outdoor recreational pool complex.

Newtown is trying to appeal to the youth market, ages 10-16, by adding a 7,000-square-foot youth fitness center combined with a personal training and sports performance training center, which will specialize in training programs for sports and conditioning. A 12,000-square-foot adult fitness center, a new roadway entrance and a repaved and expanded parking lot also will be built.

The project is designed by Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative, Denver, under the direction of Hervey Lavoie. When completed in June 2013, the facility will cover 22 acres and house new equipment, as well as a cardio theater.

“The club, just as it is, would be enough of a lifetime achievement and we love it, but this next expansion will raise us to the level we have always imagined possible” says Jim Worthington, Newtown Athletic Club's owner and president.

The expansion is the latest project showing the company's growth. Earlier this year, Newtown partnered with Doug Steinly to open the Horsham Athletic Club in Philadelphia.
