NEWARK, NJ -- A former club employee in New Jersey was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting three boys.
Jose Reyes of Newark was arrested April 15, 2009, at Can Do Fitness center in Short Hills, NJ. Reyes, who had been employed by the club as a child care assistant since October 2003, was fired the day of his arrest, according to The Item of Millburn and Short Hills.
None of the alleged incidents occurred at the club. One of the victims was allegedly assaulted when he was between the ages of 9 and 12 at both his home and Reyes’ home, the newspaper reported. The other two victims, 6 and 15, were allegedly assaulted by Reyes on separate babysitting jobs.
The club’s owner told the newspaper that he had not received any complaints from members or staff about Reyes prior to his arrest. Reyes received his sentence on July 1 in Newark (NJ) Superior Court.
