LOS ANGELES -- Fitness legend Jack LaLanne, who received Club Industry’s Lifetime Achievement Award this year, is recovering from heart valve surgery.
LaLanne, 95, underwent the procedure on Dec. 8 at a Los Angeles hospital. According to a family statement, LaLanne told his family before the surgery, “I can’t die. It would wreck my image.”
LaLanne is resting comfortably at his home in Morro Bay, CA, doing fine and is expected to make a full recovery and “bounce back better than ever,” according to the statement.
“I will be ready to tow my wife Elaine across the bathtub!” LaLanne said in the statement.
In October, LaLanne received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Club Industry show in Chicago. He also gave the keynote address and signed autographs afterward for show attendees.
In the days before and after the Club Industry show, LaLanne crisscrossed the country promoting his latest book, “Live Young Forever: 12 Steps to Optimum Health, Fitness & Longevity.”
