IRVINE, CA -- LA Fitness has added two new clubs to its portfolio this month.
The Irvine, CA-based company is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony today for its newest club in Stuart, FL. The club opened on Sept. 10, a few days after its scheduled Labor Day weekend target date.
The delay was due to the city of Stuart not receiving outstanding impact fees on the project, according to TCPalm.com. LA Fitness ended up paying those fees, which totaled $29,000, but city officials say several aspects of construction at the site still need to be addressed, according to the report.
The club has about 2,000 members. LA Fitness says it will employ about 50 part-time and full-time staff there.
“The opening of this club on Federal Highway complements our existing club at I-95 and Gatlin Boulevard in the Tradition and provides the residents of the Treasure Coast greater access and convenience to an exceptional fitness experience,” LA Fitness CEO Louis Welch said in a statement from the company.
Earlier this month, LA Fitness opened its 19th Chicago-area club in Broadview, IL. The club, formerly occupied by a Target store, is holding a grand opening party on Oct. 16.
“I can’t think of a more appealing and convenient location for the people in this area than being right out on Cermak [Road] with this expansive field of parking,” Welch said.
Last month, LA Fitness opened a club in the Indianapolis suburb of Lawrence, IN, as well as a club in Mesa, AZ. The company, which ranked No. 2 on Club Industry’s Top 100 Clubs list this year, has now opened 19 clubs this year and has 343 clubs nationwide.
