The Nifty After Fifty senior fitness and wellness club chain recently launched its Cane-Fu Aerobics program at its six locations in Southern California. The class incorporates self-defense skills and balance training along with an aerobic workout.
American International College (AIC) in Springfield, MA, will launch an executive MBA program in commercial fitness next summer. Courses will be taught by the AIC graduate faculty and commercial fitness industry experts. The 15-month program is designed for middle- to senior-level managers from all segments of the commercial fitness industry. Students will take five courses in the summer of 2009, three online courses during the 2009-2010 academic year and will finish the program in 2010 with four courses and a Capstone Research Project that will focus on a particular aspect of each student's job-specific segment of the industry.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) helped save the life of a 37-year-old man who collapsed while jogging on a treadmill, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. After Mike Uttech collapsed at Western Racquet & Fitness Club in Ashwaubenon, WI, club members gave him CPR before reviving him with the AED. Doctors later told Uttech that he would not have survived without the club's AED.
Snap Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, has hired former Curves President and Chief Operating Officer Gary Findley as vice president of sales and marketing. Findley, a former franchising consultant, is helping prepare Snap Fitness to enter markets in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
