In-Shape Health Clubs, Stockton, CA, has acquired Ultimate Fitness, an 18,500-square-foot facility in American Canyon, CA, for an undisclosed sum. At the same time, the company has begun construction on a new facility in Suisun City, CA, just 15 miles away.

In-Shape will survey members of the Ultimate Fitness facility to determine any changes that may occur at the location.

The Suisun City location, which will have an indoor pool, is the company’s third facility in which construction has begun this year. In January, In-Shape announced it would begin immediate construction on a facility in Bakersfield, CA, and another one in Carmel, CA. The Bakersfield location, which is scheduled to open Oct. 1, will be the fifth in that area, and the Carmel location, which is scheduled to open July 1, will be the third in the Carmel/Monterey, CA, area.

The company actually has five facilities under construction right now. Last August, the company also began construction on a facility in Vacaville, CA. That club is scheduled to open June 1, the same day a location in Turlock, CA, also will open.

Once construction on each of these facilities is complete, In-Shape will have 44 locations in California.

In-Shape has three types of clubs. Its Fit clubs are less than 20,000 square feet. Its City clubs are greater than 20,000 square feet, but they do not have tennis or racquetball. Its Sport clubs are also greater than 20,000 square feet, but they do include tennis and/or racquetball.

The new Vacaville, Turlock and Bakersfield locations will be Sport clubs. The Carmel location will be a Fit club. The Suisun City location will be a City club.

“At In-Shape, we’re always trying to bring the best and most convenient health and fitness resources—at an affordable price—to our members,” Rob Farrens, In-Shape’s executive vice president, said in a release about the latest openings.
