LONG BEACH, CA -- Frog’s Fitness has announced it will close its location on the California State University Long Beach (CSULB) campus at the end of the year.

Frog’s, which has leased its space in CSULB’s Walter Pyramid for 15 years, will close on Dec. 31. A spokesperson for Frog’s parent company, Club One, told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the club was hit hard by the opening of the new $70 million university recreation center earlier this year.

Membership in the CSULB facility is included as part of current students’ union fee and also is available to the school’s staff, faculty and alumni for a monthly fee. The rec center is not open to the general public, but a post from the administrators of Frog’s Facebook wall says management has approached the university about opening the facility to current Frog’s members.

According to Club One spokesperson Kari Bedgood, approximately 80 percent of the members at Frog’s Long Beach location are students. The club also is popular with senior and disabled members due to its specialized wellness center and physical therapy program.
