Boston — Another story involving locker room theft has hit the health club world, and this one affects members in numerous states. Last month, six people were indicted for allegedly stealing more than 350 credit cards from men's locker rooms at Bally Total Fitness clubs. The defendants allegedly used the cards to get more than $350,000 in cash advances at several horse race tracks around the country, according to a report by The Associated Press.
The defendants are accused of stealing credit cards in California, Maryland, Minnesota, Texas and Washington. They are also accused of using the cards to get cash advances at race tracks in Arizona, California, Washington and Missouri, among others. One of the defendants, Dennis Savarese of Austin, TX, allegedly used his memberships at Bally and 24 Hour Fitness to get access to locker rooms in those clubs. The five other defendants are residents of Massachusetts.
