SAN FRANCISCO — Robin Klaus' role at Club One has been expanded to that of CEO after the departure of Jim Mizes last month, the company announced.
Klaus had been serving as the San Francisco-based company's chairman of the board, where he drove the board in terms of strategy, finance and shareholder communications. He will continue as chairman in addition to CEO.
Mizes had been with Club One for eight years.
“I will miss Jim Mizes on many levels, particularly his steadfast commitment, many contributions and passion,” Bill McBride, COO of Club One, told Club Industry. “Jim will be missed a great deal by all who know and have worked with him.”
Club One did not disclose a reason for Mizes' departure. Mizes did say that his exit is part of Club One adapting to the changes in the economy.
“I will continue to add value to growing organizations in my future endeavors,” Mizes said in a statement, “and I leave knowing that Club One is in good hands with an experienced, innovative and dedicated leadership team who is passionate about serving our members, clients and partners.”
Klaus was formerly chairman of Planet Fitness, a club company in Singapore. Prior to that, he was president and chief operating officer of Star Trac and was chairman of American Sports Institute, a nonprofit educational organization.
“Robin Klaus is a long-term industry veteran who has been an integral part of the organization's leadership since the company's inception and knows the company inside and out,” McBride said. “We have undergone multiple changes within the organization that will make us stronger and more prepared for future growth and opportunities.”
