ST PETERSBURG, FL — In its first foray outside of Florida, Lifestyle Family Fitness acquired eight California Fitness Centers (CalFit) in Columbus, OH, and throughout central Ohio. The clubs were previously owned by Ray Wilson and Greg Rowe. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The acquisition increases the company's number of clubs to 36 and the membership base to 170,000.
The eight California Fitness Centers, averaging 25,000 square feet, boast amenities similar to the existing Florida-based Lifestyle Family Fitness centers. Each club offers an array of strength and cardio equipment, group fitness programming including Pilates and cardio kick-boxing, nationally certified personal trainers, saunas and childcare services.
“We plan to grow aggressively throughout the region with the assistance of the leadership group of CalFit,” said Geoff Dyer, Lifestyle Family Fitness president and CEO.
Wilson said he was confident that Lifestyle would be able to use California Fitness as a base for expansion in the Midwest. Over the next several months, Lifestyle will invest more than $3 million in the CalFit group of clubs, Dyer said.
