DALLAS — Dr. Kenneth Cooper, founder of the Cooper Institute, is taking health and fitness to the home with a new residential community near Craig Ranch in McKinney, TX. Cooper will break ground in September on Cooper Life, a 51-acre, master-planned community valued at $1 billion. The new community will be anchored by the already existing 75,000-square-foot Cooper Aerobics Center. The community will combine the concepts of “new urbanism” and boutique medicine with the amenities of fitness-based living, says Cooper, who developed the concept with his son, Dr. Tyler Cooper.
Developed in partnership with Wellstone Communities, the community will include single-family cottages, town homes, brownstones, row houses and luxury mid-rise condominiums. It will feature easy access to outdoor exercise and stretching areas amid nature trails, gardens, parks and winding streams.
Residents will have access to a menu of standard services (membership to Cooper Aerobics Center, Cooper Clinic comprehensive health exam, spa services, lifestyle concierge, health seminars, security, customized nutritional and vitamin supplement plans) but can upgrade packages to include boutique family medical care (including house calls), assigned personal trainers and assigned dieticians.
Wellstone Communities hopes to work with Cooper to develop additional Cooper Life communities in other parts of the country in the future, says John Lowery, president of Wellstone.
