  • Klaus Hilgers, founder and president of Epoch Consultants Inc., has died. Hilgers was a consultant in the industry and a speaker at trade shows, including the Club Industry trade shows, for many years. He died while in Kazakhstan on a speaking engagement. The cause of death is unknown as of press time.

  • Jason Hadeed, the CEO of Elite Athletes Training Systems, was shot to death in February in his neighborhood of Rockville, MD. Michael Wayne Adam, who allegedly knew Hadeed and who lived in the same neighborhood, has been arrested for the shooting. The motive for the shooting was unknown as of press time.

  • This spring, Pure Yoga studio, owned by Equinox Holdings Inc., will open in New York City. Pure Yoga offers all yoga types, from Anusara to Yin Yoga, in a 20,000-square-foot facility. The space includes four dedicated yoga studios, two private studios for one-on-one attention and instruction, and changing rooms and lounging areas featuring bath and skin care products. The New York City facility is Pure Yoga's first studio in the United States. There are currently five Pure Yoga locations in Hong Kong.

  • David Barton Gym will open its first West Coast gym in The Shops at The Bravern in downtown Bellevue, WA, as early as November 2008. At that time, approximately 2,300 Microsoft employees will be housed in the two office towers of the project. The plans for the 37,000-square-foot facility include a strength training floor, yoga studio and space for group training classes.

  • Revolution Fitness in Boston completed its extensive three-phase renovation. The renovation includes the addition of fitness services, such as nutrition counseling, and one-on-one kickboxing and yoga instruction. The renovated facility also offers enhanced cardio and strength training space, private training areas, new locker rooms and a café-lounge.
