AUSTIN, TX -- A 4-year-old boy died Saturday after he drowned the day before in a Life Time Fitness swimming pool.

One of the seven lifeguards on duty pulled Colin Holst from the outdoor pool Friday afternoon. The other lifeguards began administering CPR, and paramedics were called, according to KVUE-TV. A defibrillator also was used, according to KXAN-TV.

Holst was taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center, and his pulse was revived just before he arrived at the hospital, KVUE reported. He had been listed in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit Friday but died there the next day.

Both the outdoor and indoor pools at the Life Time club were closed after Friday’s drowning. An employee at the club said the outdoor pool reopened today, but the indoor pool was closed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,” Life Time Fitness corporate spokesperson Jason Thunstrom told KVUE. “In the face of such an incident—and an outcome of course none of us were hoping for—the team is taking it pretty hard.”

The drowning death is the first at a Life Time Fitness club in the state of Texas, Thunstrom told KVUE. Thunstrom adds there has been one other drowning death at a Life Time club in a different state.

Last week, officials at Dell Children’s Medical Center said they have seen 11 near-drownings and two drowning deaths at the hospital since May 1. That’s three or four times the number the hospital has had over the same period in each year since 2005, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
