FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Diversified Health and Fitness recently announced the acquisition of American Bodyworks.

American Bodyworks has 22 locations, most of which are in the Southeast, with nine more in development. Its offices are in Marietta, GA.

“Diversified Health and Fitness is a great match for us in terms of an acquisition partner,” Robert Parrish, president of American Bodyworks, said in a statement. “The move will bring together a portfolio of large, coed clubs built on a great concept with the operational expertise of a team that has developed and sold over 1,000 clubs nationwide.”

Diversified Health, based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and founded in 2007, also owns clubs such as Butterfly Life, 1-2-3 Fit and Shape Xpress. The acquisition of American Bodyworks expands the company’s portfolio to more than 200 clubs.

“The American Bodyworks brand is solid,” Diversified CEO Roger Wittenberns said in a statement. “The 10,000-square-foot-plus, coed model is a concept that allows for stability, growth and consistent cash flow. We commend the founders of American Bodyworks on their success in our industry, and we look forward to taking their concept to the next level.”

Meanwhile, two clubs owned by Diversified Health in the Denver area recently closed.

Rejuvenate in Wheat Ridge, CO, closed in October, according to a report by Denver’s NBC TV affiliate, 9News. Members were told their memberships could transfer to FitZone for Women in nearby Broomfield, CO, but that club, too, has since closed.

The women interviewed by the TV station say it has been two months since they have sent a written request to National Fitness Financial, Diversified’s billing company, to cancel their memberships and refund their money, yet their requests have not yet been granted.

The TV station contacted Diversified Health and National Fitness Financial last month. Both companies told the station that member accounts would be cancelled upon request, and refunds would be granted to members.
