NEW YORK -- Crunch will expand its reach in Miami as well as its other primary markets around the country over the next several months.

Crunch’s new club in Miami is its third in South Florida and the fourth since New Evolution Ventures (NEV) took over the company last year.

The new 25,000-square-foot Miami club, which opened Sept. 2, is in the facility formerly occupied by Miami Beach Fitness. That makes 22 Crunch clubs overall in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami.

After NEV took over New York-based Crunch following bankruptcy proceedings last year, the company rebuilt and expanded a club in the San Francisco suburb of Danville, CA, last fall that had been a Bally Total Fitness and a Pinnacle Fitness. Earlier this year, Crunch added two new clubs in the San Francisco area that had been Gold’s Gyms.

Mark Mastrov, NEV co-founder, says the Lafayette, CA-based company plans to double the number of Miami Crunch clubs in the next six to 12 months.

“We like the Miami market for Crunch and plan to stay aggressive there,” Mastrov says.

He adds that NEV plans to build four to six clubs in the New York, Northern California and Los Angeles areas. All of those clubs will be new builds, Mastrov says.

In terms of Crunch franchise clubs, Mastrov says NEV will open eight to 10 of those clubs over the next four to six months.
