The Club Industry national conference will be here before you know it (Oct. 15-18). It's never too early to make your plans to go to Chicago and check out some of the newest products and listen to some of the industry's best presenters.

That's why the Club Industry show group has put together six pages of details about this year's conference. Just go to page 67 of this issue to read more about the schedule, the sessions and the special events planned.

I'm mostly excited about the keynote speaker, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. Not only will he speak at the conference, but we will also present him with our Lifetime Achievement Award prior to his keynote address. Although I visited the Cooper Center at Craig's Ranch a few months ago, I was not able to meet Dr. Cooper at that time, so I'm looking forward to talking with him at the show.

Dr. Cooper is an especially appropriate award recipient this year since we will soon be celebrating the magazine's 25th anniversary. Dr. Cooper's coining of the term “aerobics” as well as the mounds of research that he has done on fitness and health-related matters has contributed greatly to the advancement of the health club industry and fitness in general.
