SANTA ROSA, CA -- Last week, a judge ruled that Body Central, originally a women-only club in Santa Rosa, CA, had not complied with his ruling to provide showers and lockers for men.
The owner of the club, Shannon Hartnett, had been ordered to open the facility to men and provide locker room facilities after California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing filed a lawsuit against the facility for violating the state’s anti-discrimination law. The lawsuit and several others against area women-only clubs occurred after Phillip Kottle said he asked to join the facilities and was denied membership.
If Hartnett does not comply with the judge’s order by Jan. 31, she would be fined $50 a day until the locker room facilities are provided. However, Hartnett may be selling the facility soon, according to a report in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Henry Wolst told the judge he would be purchasing the facility and building a men’s locker room.
