OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Two large club operators, Bally Total Fitness, Chicago, and Life Time Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, recently announced club openings. The Bally club already is in operation while the Life Time club is slated to open in early 2010.

Bally’s new club in Miami opened on Sept. 1, the day the company announced it had emerged from bankruptcy. The 40,000-square-foot-club features an Olympic-style roof-deck swimming pool, an outdoor rooftop running track overlooking the Miami cityscape and a Total Martial Arts facility that offers classes for both adults and kids.

“This new facility will be one of our top locations nationwide,” Bally CEO Mike Sheehan said in a company statement. “We are proud to provide the best value in fitness and offer our members a premium workout experience at a great price.”

The club also will offer a variety of group exercise programs, including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, kickboxing and a Powerflex program, in addition to a cycling studio.

“From the amount of fitness space to the top-notch equipment, this top-tier Bally club will be a great addition to the Miami community,” Steve Butler, zone vice president for Bally, said in the company statement. “This facility is very family friendly, and we are excited to bring local families to Bally for fun activities and fitness.”

Life Time Fitness announced that it is scheduled to open its newest club next January in the Cleveland suburb of Beachwood, OH. It will be the company’s fourth club in Ohio and first in the Cleveland area.

The new club will include more than 400 pieces of equipment, group exercise, yoga and Pilates studios, a cycling studio, and indoor and outdoor aquatics centers.

“At Life Time Fitness, we aim to deliver the highest possible quality facilities, services and programs at an exceptional value,” Jeff Zwiefel, Life Time’s executive vice president of operations, said in a company statement. “We are excited to extend this commitment to the residents of Beachwood and surrounding communities. This large, very unique facility will provide 24/7 access complemented by a wide array of health, fitness, recreation and entertainment services designed to meet the needs of the entire family.”

During its second quarter earnings call in July, the company announced it planned to open three new clubs in 2010. The company has already completed its new club openings—three—for 2009. Originally, Life Time had planned to open as many as 11 clubs this year.
