BATON ROUGE, LA -- A personal trainer at an Anytime Fitness in Louisiana allegedly used a pen camera to record women in the club’s shower room.
Baton Rouge, LA, police arrested Terry Wayne Telschow last week on four counts of video voyeurism. Telschow, a 22-year-old student at LSU who is seeking a doctorate degree in kinesiology, recorded at least four women in the shower room of the downtown Baton Rouge club with the pen camera, police say.
A member noticed the pen camera on April 5 and brought it to the attention of an Anytime staff member, who happened to be Telschow himself. Police say Telschow told the woman that he had checked the pen camera and found it did not contain any files. He also told her there was no reason to notify the police, which the woman did anyway.
Baton Rouge police investigators were later able to examine the pen camera and recovered multiple deleted video files showing four women undressing, along with images of Telschow placing the pen camera in the women’s shower room.
None of the four women have been identified, but investigators are working with Anytime Fitness to identify them through the club’s membership ID photo database as well as door entry key swipe records.
Anytime Fitness spokesperson Mark Daly told The Advocate of Baton Rouge that Telschow, who had worked at Anytime Fitness as an independent contractor for nine months, was fired as soon as the company was notified of the arrest.
“I’m told [Telschow] was very popular with our members,” Daly told the newspaper. “We never had any prior complaints about him by members, and members told us they always had good results working with him.”
Anytime Fitness has security cameras in all parts of the club except in the bathrooms and showers, Daly said.
“But I’m not sure we could have done anything to prevent this,” he said.
Earlier this year, a Georgia man was arrested for using a pen camera to record men and boys in the locker room of a Life Time Fitness club.
