A fire in a women’s sauna at The Alaska Club in Anchorage, AK, caused an estimated $15,000 of damage.
No one was injured from the fire that began early Tuesday, according to the Anchorage Daily News. An off-duty firefighter who was working out at the club was first on the scene. One woman tried to douse the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the firefighter quickly shut the door and began the process of evacuating the club, the newspaper reported.
The fire had grown by the time he returned to the sauna.
“It was rolling flames in the corner, inside the room and up in the ceiling,” fire Capt. Tom Oxnam told the newspaper.
Just as firefighters arrived at the scene, a sprinkler system kicked in and doused the fire, the newspaper reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
