CONCORD, CA -- A 24 Hour Fitness member was arrested and cited after his gun went off in his gym bag in the men’s locker room.
The incident occurred Sunday in the Sunvalley Shopping Center club in Concord, CA. The bullet hit a wall in the locker room but did not hurt anyone, according to the Contra Costa (CA) Times. A call to 911 was made at 6:08 p.m. that evening, minutes after the shot was fired.
The suspect, an 83-year-old man, was found later sitting in his car parked near the 24 Hour club. He carried a loaded, derringer-style .357 handgun, and one cartridge recently fired, police said.
The man was released after police cited him on suspicion of negligent discharge, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm in public, according to the report.
