SAN RAMON, CA -- 24 Hour Fitness has launched a Cardless Check-In program that uses fingerprints to identify club members.
The San Ramon, CA-based company currently has the system in select clubs in California, Nevada and Texas and in all clubs in Arizona, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. The company says it plans to have the system in place in all clubs by the end of the year.
After enrolling in the Cardless Check-In program, members can check into a 24 Hour club by entering a code and placing their finger on a finger scanner. During the scanning, 24 Hour charts the distance between a few distinct points and assigns a unique number based on those distances. 24 Hour says it will not store member fingerprints, nor will it store the data recreated into a fingerprint image.
Those members who do not wish to enroll in the program will need to bring a driver’s license or a government- or school-issued ID each time they enter the club. Members will still need their card to enter clubs that do not yet have the system.
