The wife of a membership counselor at a 24 Hour Fitness in Sacramento, CA, was stabbed in her car while she was waiting for her husband to finish work.
Omar Anguiano told the Sacramento Bee that his 24-year-old wife, a mother of two, had pulled into the club’s parking lot and sent him a text message on Saturday night. Shortly thereafter, Anguiano heard screams and the car’s horn blaring. A man had jumped in the backseat of his wife’s car, grabbed her neck and stabbed her in the stomach and arm, Anguiano told the newspaper. There was no apparent motive, he added.
“He wasn’t trying to steal anything. He didn’t take anything,” he told the Bee. “She had a purse with cash in it. It was in the backseat where he could have taken it, but he didn’t.”
The woman was in stable condition Monday at a local hospital.
The suspect, described by police as an Asian male, ran away from the scene. 24 Hour says it has provided information to local authorities investigating the incident.
“We are doing everything in our power to support our team member and his family during this difficult time,” 24 Hour said in a statement. “The safety and security of our club and team members are top priorities for 24 Hour Fitness, and additional security has been added to the club parking lot.”
In May, a 24 Hour member was stabbed in the parking lot of a club in Buena Park, CA, and later died. The suspect in that case remains at large.
