Overland Park, KS — Three health club companies made Inc. magazine's Top 500 companies list, and another six made Franchise Direct's list of Top 100 Global Franchises for 2009.
Snap Fitness, Chanhassen, MN, was the highest-ranked club company on Inc. magazine's Top 500 companies list, coming in at No. 16. Hastings, MN-based Anytime Fitness, came in at No. 285. Planet Fitness, Dover, NH, ranked No. 471.
The Inc. list, which appears in its September issue, ranks the nation's fastest-growing private companies according to percentage of revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. This is the 28th year for the Top 500 list.
This is the third year for the magazine's Top 5,000 list, which expands the Top 500 list. Making this list was Plus One Health Management, New York, at No. 3,412; Fitness Together Holdings, Highlands Ranch, CO, at No. 3,848; and Club One, San Francisco, at No. 4,629.
The first-annual Franchise Direct list also was released last month and provides a glimpse into the state of the franchising industry in the current economic climate, according to Franchise Direct, an Internet portal for franchise and business opportunities.
The six fitness franchises included on the list were Anytime Fitness, No. 24; Jazzercise, No. 44; Snap Fitness, No. 56; Gymboree, No. 66; Fitness Together, No. 74; and The Little Gym International, No. 85.
Franchise Direct compiled the list using several factors, including system size based on number of units, sales revenue, stability and growth, number of years in operation, and market expansion.
