“We have accomplished a lot since we first opened Cooper Fitness Center more than 40 years ago, starting with proving the health benefits of exercise, and engaging people in exercise that works for their lifestyles,” said Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH, founder and chairman of Cooper Aerobics. “With the opening of our newly-renovated, top-notch facility we are equipping the next generation to live better, longer, more productive lives.”

Cedars Woodfire Grill at Cooper Aerobics, open to the public, is a fast-casual restaurant that serves freshly grilled food in a warm, family-friendly setting. Everything is made fresh daily, without freezers, fryers or microwaves. The Cedars “unprocessed process” uses only the freshest produce, herbs and all-natural meats that are simply prepared and cooked over a wood-fired grill. Carefully chosen ingredients lead to inspired flavors in the salads, bowls, sandwiches and soups.

The Coopers’ original Aerobics Activity Center opened in 1972, helping the public achieve the recommended aerobics points for health. In 1981, a fire sparked overnight and destroyed the original building. The Coopers rebuilt the facility in 1982, opening what is today known as Cooper Fitness Center. New renovations began in June 2012 and were completed in early 2014. Cooper Fitness Center’s renovation partners include Beck Group as the general contractor, Hudson Lockett as the architect and lauckgroup as the interior designer.

“It is an honor to celebrate this milestone at Cooper Fitness Center and to witness this new chapter in history,” said Roger Staubach, Cooper Fitness Center member, member of The Cooper Institute Board of Trustees and NFL Hall of Fame, Super Bowl Champion, Dallas Cowboys quarterback. “A lot has changed over the years, but one thing has not, and that’s the Cooper Aerobics commitment to healthy living. Dallas is honored to have Dr. Cooper, the ‘Father of Aerobics’—who revolutionized fitness and developed the ultimate health and wellness resource—right here in our backyard.”

Troy Aikman, Cooper Fitness Center member, co-chairman of the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program® and fellow Super Bowl winning NFL Hall of Fame quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, was also on-hand for the opening. “With the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program, a partnership with The Cooper Institute, I’m working to encourage healthy lifestyles in schools. The summer camps and other youth programs offered at Cooper Fitness Center are great examples of how we can keep kids active and entertained in the process. It’s an honor to celebrate the renovation of Cooper Fitness Center. It’s fit for the next generation!”
