WAUKEGAN PARK DISTRICT POSITION VACANCY RECREATION SUPERVISOR Position: Recreation Supervisor, Fitness and Aquatics Programs and Services Compensation: $41,100 - $50,200 hiring range plus an excellent benefit package. Description: Responsible for planning, organization and supervision of fitness programs, activities and special events and the operation of fitness center and outdoor aquatic facility. Duties include planning, organizing, implementing, and overseeing fitness and aquatic programs, facilities, and special events; developing, implementing and maintaining fitness and aquatic operational procedures; assigning and scheduling personal trainers; coordinating new member orientations; assisting in the management of fitness memberships; managing service to patrons on fitness center floor and at aquatic facility; providing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of participants; developing long range plans and strategies; developing and implementing annual goals and objectives; evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services making appropriate recommendations; developing and implementing a marketing strategy for area of responsibility; recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating full-time, temporary and seasonal staff and volunteers within area of responsibility; reviewing and preparing costs for program centers of annual budget; overseeing the expenditure and accounting of funds within area of responsibility; submitting recommendations for Capital Improvement Projects; securing alternative funding through grants, sponsorships, and fundraising; preparing and maintaining management reports and records regarding programs and services; monitoring safety and cleanliness of the fitness center floor, equipment, and locker rooms and at the aquatic facility; working cooperatively with community agencies and organizations. Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Sports Management, Fitness Management, Exercise Physiology/Science, or related field; minimum one (1) year full time experience with a community agency, athletic facility, or fitness facility in recreation management; three to five (3-5) years recreation experience preferred; general knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure services field and recreation principles and philosophy; specific knowledge of fitness and aquatic principles and philosophy, fitness equipment and training, Ellis Aquatic Standards; working knowledge of current issues and trends relating to fitness and aquatics; thorough knowledge of fitness and aquatic facility, program, and personnel management; sound fiscal management; ability to deliver recreation programs and services to the public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and provide excellent customer service. Hours: Full-time position: Variable schedule includes evenings and weekend hours Conditions: - Successfully complete a six (6) month introductory period - Provide copy of Illinois Certified Park and Recreation Professional certificate within one (1) year and renewal certificates as required. - Provide copies of American Council on Exercise, Aquatics Facility Operator, and Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Instructor certificates within six (6) months of employment and renewal certificates as required. - Must submit proof of date of birth, verification of education, a copy of driver’s license, and driver’s abstract. - Must submit to a reference check, to a state criminal background check, to a pre-placement physical and drug test, and to random, reasonable cause and post accident drug and/or alcohol testing. Residency: Employees are strongly encouraged, but not required, to become residents of the Waukegan Park District.
