A community service oriented non-profit sports and fitness complex on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is seeking an experienced Fitness Director. This state of the art facility brings together local children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities to promote lifelong health. Programs are offered both on-site and in the community throughout the year. Presently employing approximately 300 full time/part time employees, this well-established non-profit offers a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated and highly professional staff in a unique setting.

Responsibilities:
Direct all fitness activities in a very well equipped and well-maintained center. Pro-actively manage a staff of full time/part time/contract employees (approx. 70) including Fitness Supervisors, Fitness Specialists, Exercise Instructors and Massage Therapists. Develop and organize fitness classes, special programs and events contributing to the overall mission of Asphalt Green. Particular focus on the development of creative, alternative exercise programs with the potential for revenue. Ensure that all fitness programs/equipment/software are cutting edge and competitive. Manage business aspects of center including budget development/maintenance, retention tracking, equipment contracts, equipment upkeep, etc.

Strong focus on customer service to ensure an exciting and productive experience that will bring members and guests back to Asphalt Green again and again.

Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years experience in managing a comparable (in terms of facility size, budget, staff and programs) fitness facility mandatory. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to manage the business, a diverse staff and service a demanding customer base. Individuals must also have experience in program development and implementation. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required. Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education or Sports Management preferred along with appropriate certifications (ACE, ACSM, NCSA).
