CALABASAS, CA — The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the International Dance and Exercise Association (IDEA) continued to strengthen their strategic alliance. IDEA recently launched the Fitness Trainer Recognition System, which recognizes personal trainer credibility and experience levels, and has approved NASM as one of the official certification providers for trainers.

“Creating a positive industry revolution and truly inspiring the world to fitness will only happen if powerful industry partners align in cooperative efforts to ‘raise the bar’ and deliver high-quality education,” says NASM President and CEO Micheal A. Clark, MS, PT, NASM-PES, CSCS. “IDEA's stamp of approval through the Fitness Trainer Recognition System is very important because it is non-biased and ultimately helps NASM achieve its goal of standardization, building consumer confidence in the industry as a whole.”

IDEA said it would give its stamp of approval to personal trainers who complete either one of two certifications including NASM's Certified Personal Training (CPT) or Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) certification courses. NASM and IDEA have also announced plans to have both of their annual conventions run concurrently at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego in July 2004.
