Not only does Mishunda Mathis work for our company (Penton Media), and not only does she work in our building in Overland Park, KS, but she also works on our floor! Sometimes you see people every day, and you have no idea about anything in their lives.
In addition to the photos in this post that are displayed at 24 Hour clubs nationwide, you can see more about Mishunda (pronounced My-Shawn-Duh, or "Mai" for short) in this YouTube video, which was shot last June in Las Vegas. Or, you can read more about her deeply personal story on 24 Hour's 12 Million Lives community page. She's also currently featured on 24 Hour's Facebook page.
Mishunda, who works as an ad trafficker for Penton Media's wealth management, real estate and transportation titles, says she hasn't been recognized by too many people yet, but a friend of hers in San Francisco did text her after she heard her radio commercial.
"Friends who walk into their 24 Hour gym and suddenly see my face are like, ‘Whoa!'" she says.
24 Hour held an open casting call in June for the campaign in Kansas City as well as in Colorado and California, Mishunda says. Out of hundreds of applicants, Mishunda and five others were selected as the first faces of the new campaign. Mishunda says 24 Hour will likely repeat the process with new prospects in the spring.
"The casting call was really an interview in the middle of the gym during business hours"I did mine just before I did my regular workout," she says. "Less than a week later, I got the call saying I was on my way to Vegas."
Way to go, Mai!
