Latitudes Has Attitude

When I was in Boston two weeks ago for the Club Industry East conference, I made a quick trip up to Peabody, MA, to see the new Latitudes Sports Clubs, a 130,000-square-foot club that is scheduled to open this summer. Owner John Grossi, a former Gold's Gym franchisee, gave me a personal tour of the club. As we made our way through the construction crews that were still finishing areas of the club, I found myself wishing the conference had been a few weeks later so I could see the completed facility. It looks like it will be quite impressive.

The facility has a grand reception area with a grand staircase to match. Overlooking the lobby area will be a snack bar with an eating/lounging area. Behind the lobby and grand staircase is a cardio area with high ceilings and a view into several racquetball courts. To the right is a large basketball court. (The construction crews were staining the paneling on the walls of the basketball court the day I was there.)

The club also has four indoor tennis courts, group exercise studios, a walking track and a swimming pool with a sun deck on the fourth floor.

I saw the designer of the club, Rudy Fabiano of Fabiano Designs, the next day at the Club Industry East trade show. He had been to the club earlier that day to check on the progress. And he also expressed regret that I hadn't been able to see the club in its finished state. However, both he and Grossi promised photos of the completed club. I'll make sure to share them with you when they arrive!
