AED Training Program Was a Factor in Cadet's Death
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, CO -- According to an Air Force report, the U.S. Air Force Academy's athletics automatic external defibrillator training (AED) program may have been a contributing factor in the death of Cadet 4th Class Edward Schmeltz earlier this year.
Life Time Reports Revenue and Net Income Growth
EDEN PRAIRIE, MN -- The second quarter brought with it revenue growth of 24.8 percent for Life Time Fitness, the Eden Prairie, MN-based fitness club that went public last year. Revenue grew to $95.6 million from $76.6 million during the same period last year. Net income during the quarter grew 42.7 percent to $10.3 million, or $0.28 per diluted share on 36.2 million shares.
Navy Promotes "Healthy" Competition
USS BLUE RIDGE -- To promote fitness and foster competition and pride, the U.S. 7th Fleet command ship USS Blue Ridge Health Promotions Committee sponsored a relay race in late July covering the distance from Sydney to Brisbane, Australia. Teams of sailors ran, walked and biked their way -- virtually -- across the Land Down Under.
NIRSA and Ohio State Open Institute
COLUMBUS, OH -- Representatives from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and the Ohio State University Department of Recreational Sports participated in an early August ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the National Research Institute for College Recreational Sports and Wellness. The ceremony took place on the Ohio State University's Columbus campus, at an amphitheater inside the newly constructed Recreation and Physical Activity Center, which is the new home of the institute.
Mr. Potato Head Gets Healthy
NEW YORK -- The well-known spud, Mr. Potato Head(R), is gearing up for his first appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade(R) this fall by becoming sporty. Sponsored by the United States Potato Board (USPB), the famed potato is taking on a fit role as part of an initiative targeted to educate consumers about the nutritional benefits of the potato and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
