Lack of Resources and Products Challenge Schools’ Healthy Efforts

CHICAGO -- Getting students to make better food choices during the school day is a vital step to improving eating habits. Unfortunately, although many schools are interested in promoting better nutrition, a variety of obstacles – seemingly insurmountable – stand in the way of offering healthier food for their students, according to a report released recently by Action for Healthy Kids.

Inequality in Facility Access Contributes to Teen Weight Gain

CHAPEL HILL, NC -- In a study of 20,000 U.S. teens, researchers found resources available for physical activity were not distributed relatively equally across all segments of the population and that each facility in adolescents’ communities increased the likelihood that they would meet physical activity recommendations and reduced their likelihood of being overweight, according to research in the February issue of the journal Pediatrics.

Air Force Studies Protein Supplements

BROOKS CITY-BASE, TX -- Warfighters will never have the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but a specialized whey protein supplement under study at Brooks City-Base in Texas could enhance mental and physical performance. The double-blind Air Force Research Laboratory study was launched Feb. 3 as part of an operational readiness initiative and is being conducted in collaboration with the GNC Corp. of Pittsburgh.

Bally Board Approves $700,000 Bonus for CEO

Just months later, however, Bally’s board approved a $700,000 bonus for Toback for 2005 compared to $400,000 for 2004. On top of his 2005 bonus, Toback will earn an additional bonus of $200,000 once Bally files its annual report.

Rewarding Idea Grows

BOSTON -- The number of companies rewarding members for working out has increased in the past few months as several companies, including Virgin Life Care and Fitnsurance, announced their reward plans. Now, ItsMyBod (IMB) is stepping into the limelight with its rewards program. The program will receive a helping hand from the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), which will promote the IMB Healthy Activity Rewards Program to IHRSA member clubs.
