The Association of Fitness Studios (AFS) today proudly accepted an invitation to guest lecture at the prestigious Department of Kinesiology at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus (UIC).
AFS President Josh Leve and CEO Brad Elson will jointly present the topic, “Turning Great Fitness Professionals Into Even Greater Business Owners.” The audience will be undergraduate kinesiology students seeking careers in fitness, education rehabilitation, or medical programs.
“We’re honored and thrilled at the invitation,” said Leve. “UIC’s program is incredibly well respected. We look forward to contributing in a meaningful way.”
The specific class is “Instructional Techniques in Fitness” taught by Lauren Warnecke, MS, ACSM-CPT. Lauren is a nationally published writer (Huffington Post, Windy City Times, among others), educator, and freelance dance professional holding degrees in Dance (BA, ’03) and Kinesiology (MS, ’09).
She is currently a full-time Clinical Instructor for the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at UIC, teaching the core practical curriculum for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.
Robyn L K Becker, graduate student in the department and teaching assistant for the class at UIC, previously presented on the business of studio ownership. She recruited AFS after approval from Ms. Warnecke. Becker is also founder of Healthy Results, a highly successful company of professionals who provide fitness, nutrition, wellness and coaching services to the Chicago market.
“The goal is to give the students an introductory look into the business side of the studio industry,” said Becker. “Josh and Brad bring experience and timely learning with the AFS. After speaking with Josh and reviewing with professor Warnecke, we agreed that they would be the perfect presenters for a business lecture to our students.”
The class will take place March 19 on the UIC campus.
